About the Role:We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of a data platform supporting critical business functions across the enterprise. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic platform development, ensuring the data ecosystem scales efficiently while maintaining reliability, performance and governance standards.

You will lead a team of data engineers, set technical direction and partner closely with architecture, analytics and technology teams to deliver data capabilities that underpin decision-making and innovation across the business.

What's a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Lead a team of data engineers to deliver robust scalable data pipelines and services
  • Define and implement data architecture standards, best practices and operational processes
  • Work with business and technology teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical designs
  • Introduce modern data practices such as streaming and event-driven architecture where appropriate
  • Manage platform performance, reliability and security, including backup and recovery strategies
  • Drive improvements in data quality, governance and monitoring frameworks
  • Oversee cost management and resource planning for the data platform
  • Lead delivery efforts for data-related initiatives across multiple business units

About You: 

  • Minimum 8 years Experience in Data engineering and Data platform development
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or Information technology
  • Strong expertise in Databricks, Pyspark, SQL and modern cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure)
  • Knowledge of medallion architecture, lakehouse design patterns and data governance frameworks
  • Proven leadership experience, mentoring engineering teams and driving best practices
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for different audiences
  • Experience delivering large-scale data initiatives in complex environments (financial services exposure highly regarded)
