What you will be doing

In conjunction with GM-People, Culture and Wellbeing, the Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, awards, and organisational policies. the role provides payroll support and advice to employees and managers, while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in all payroll matters. In addition, the position assists with HR administrative tasks and supports Workcover administration and related reporting activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis using Employment Hero, accurately and on time for all employees.
  • Process new starters, terminations, and employee changes (hours, pay rates, classifications, deductions).
  • Prepare and reconcile superannuation contributions, PAYG tax, and other statutory obligations.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work, National Employment Standards (NES), awards, and taxation requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all payroll and employee information
  • Perform other duties as directed by General Manager – People, Culture & Wellbeing.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Tertiary qualification in Payroll Administration, Accounting, Business, or Human Resources and/or relevant experience in a medium size payroll processing. Experience using Employment Hero HRIS/Payroll system. Knowledge of the Visual Care system is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, and NES. Including Fair Work Act 2009, LSL Act, Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act, Payroll Tax and PAYG requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to respond to queries over the telephone and via email appropriately and clearly with patience, sensitivity, and discretion.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and consultative approach.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Other requirements:

  • Current driver license and access to own vehicle.
  • Police check at the required intervals and working with children check.
  • Not subject to any Employee Screening or Banning Orders under relevant state or federal legislation (e.g., Worker Screening Act 2020 (Vic)).
