Role description
Professionals Australia is seeking an experienced and highly motivated organiser to support the delivery of the FemTech Project, a Commonwealth-funded Building Women's Careers initiative. This project will drive structural and cultural change to increase women's participation in the digital and technology industries, while strengthening workforce equity and inclusion.
In this role, you will work with members and workplace leaders to plan and implement a range of organising and industrial campaigns which build workers' power and deliver exceptional industrial and professional outcomes.
You will understand the issues facing women and be able to apply organising frameworks and methodologies to address these issues.
You will work with members and workplace leaders to campaign, build power and win.
You will be responsible for:
- Recruiting and organising women working in the tech sector.
- Building workplace leadership among women in digital and technology industries.
- Developing campaigns to address workplace gender inequities, harassment, and unsafe conditions.
- Working with members to identify and address issues such as pay inequity, career barriers, discrimination, and unsafe workplace cultures.
- Developing and running campaigns to create safer workplaces, improve working conditions and enterprise bargaining outcomes.
- Representing members in workplace issues and disputes, where required.
- Partnering with FemTech collaborators to co-design strategies and solutions that improve women's participation and conditions in the tech sector.
- Strengthening links between the union, educators, industry, and government stakeholders involved in FemTech.
Selection Criteria
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Experience working for a union or other types of campaigning organisations.
- Commitment to union values.
- Understanding of gender-based workplace issues, including harassment, discrimination, and barriers to women's workforce participation
- Strong verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to successfully represent and advocate for members in workplaces and other forums.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with current and potential members and workplace leaders.
- Effective planning and organizational skills to balance the competing demands of the role.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
- High degree of computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, CRM, web updates, SMS broadcasts etc.)
- Knowledge of the Australian industrial relations system and ability to provide relevant information and advice to members on collective industrial issues.
- The successful applicant must be eligible to obtain a right of entry permit.
- Current driver's license.
Salary and conditions
Fulltime position
Salary negotiable based on skills and experience.
Generous working conditions including flexible working arrangements, 12 rostered days off per year and 4 days paid leave between Christmas and New Year.
A motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance may also be negotiated as part of the salary package.
Interstate travel and out-of-hours work may be required.
