This is a fixed term, full time vacancy available for 5 years/60 months, with the possibility of extension subject to business requirements and good performance.
About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Solicitor to lead the Public & General Litigation (PGL) Legal Section at the State Solicitor's Office (the Office).
The Deputy State Solicitor – PGL is responsible for the performance and outputs of PGL, as well as the delivery of dispute resolution services to Government. The successful candidate will demonstrate the highest level of legal expertise in managing highly complex and sensitive litigation matters and in providing strategic, high-level legal advice.
As an experienced leader, you will have the capability to coordinate multiple legal functions and oversee the delivery of legal services at the highest level. Your strong interpersonal and superior communication skills will enable you to foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing team environment within PGL and across the Office.
Reporting directly to the State Solicitor, you will work in close partnership with other senior members of the Corporate Executive to help shape the future direction of the Office and be a strategic leader in decision making.

- This position is under the Salaries and Allowance Determination - Special Division and Prescribed Office Holders No 1 of 2025. The Office holders listed are entitled to the same terms and conditions as contained in the Public Service Award 1992 and the Public Sector CSA Agreement 2024, however the salary is inclusive of annual leave loading.

- The term will be for a five-year fixed term contract and to be eligible for appointment, applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent residency status.
- A current permanent WA Public Sector employee will elect to forego permanency to take up this position and will not be entitled to a right of return under section 58 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
