About the role

At Smith and Co Group, we are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our dynamic team in our Burleigh Heads office. In this full-time position, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of our thriving Painting and Rendering Company. As a key member of our leadership team, you will ensure the financial success and growth of the business, with a strong focus on automation, cash flow management, risk mitigation, and funds optimisation tailored to the construction and subcontracting environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Oversee invoicing, progress claims, contracts, retentions, and payment schedules in line with industry regulations and contractual obligations
  • Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to the senior management team
  • Oversee the company's budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and growth
  • Drive funds optimisation strategies to maximise return on capital and efficient allocation of resources
  • Implement strong risk management frameworks to safeguard the company's financial stability, including debtor management and contract compliance
  • Ensure compliance with QBCC, BIF Act (QLD) and all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions to maintain the integrity of the company's financial records
  • Have the mindset around automation and system improvements to streamline finance operations (claims, invoicing, cost tracking, reporting)
  • Apply advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to improve financial performance and support commercial decision-making
What we're looking for
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, with CPA or CA accreditation
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior finance role, ideally within construction, subcontracting, or trade services
  • Strong technical accounting and financial analysis skills
  • Proven experience in managing progress claims, variations, retentions, and compliance with construction payment schedules
  • Demonstrated ability in risk management and funds optimisation
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to provide strategic financial guidance to senior leadership
  • Proven leadership skills in building and developing high-performing finance teams
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly with builders, contractors, and clients
  • Proficient in financial software, automation platforms, and data analysis tools
