Purchasing Officer – 12 Month max term contract
Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO).
Mount Gibson's flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia's highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe.

About the role:
We are seeking to employ an experienced Purchasing Officer at our West Perth Office on a Fulltime basis (Monday to Friday).
Reporting directly to the Procurement and Inventory Manager, the primary focus of this role is to safely coordinate and undertake day to day purchasing activities for all end user departments in an efficient and cost effective manner with a view to minimizing the total cost of ownership of goods and services.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Undertake all of the following activities in accordance with the Supply Department policies and procedures
- Prepare requests for quotation (RFQs) for the procurement of goods and services, undertake review and analysis of responses and provide substantiated recommendations as to most cost effective option
- Ensure all purchase orders for catalogued and non-catalogued items, are accurate and complete and raised on a timely basis
- Expedite all inventory and direct purchase orders as requires in a timely and efficient manner
- Communicate effectively with suppliers/transport operators and site personnel as necessary to ensure all goods are delivered safety to site on a timely basis
- Prioritise urgent requests as appropriate in order to support operational requirements
- Liaise with end user department representatives as necessary in order to clarify requirements and ensure appropriate and cost effective solutions are being supplied
- Resolve any delivery, pricing and or quality issues with suppliers or contractors and end user department representatives in a timely and efficient manner, to the satisfaction of end users
- Review outstanding purchase order and other relevant reports and follow up outstanding items to ensure all data is accurate and complete
- Ensure that an audit trail is available for all purchasing activities
- Make recommendations for the inclusion of items in the stock catalogue by identifying commonly purchased non catalogued items
- Assist in the tendering process and negotiation of new and existing supply contract and or fixed pricing agreements in consultation with others as required
- Assist generally in implementing cost reduction initiatives while satisfying business and operational requirements
- Assist generally with supply chain function activities as required
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- Three years' experience in a Purchasing Officer position, preferably in the mining, oil and gas or resource sector (desirable)
- Advanced PC skills and systems literacy specifically relating to Pronto or similar ERP system and the Microsoft Office suite of products
