HV Linesman
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Is a field-based role directly undertaking rigging works for tower, monopole and guyed mast construction and maintenance. The role also includes cabling and installation of antennas and associated hardware. Working at heights around RF frequency radiation and at times in remote locations is an essential part of this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertake construction works and rigging activities in accordance with all work health, safety and environmental requirements in accordance with high-risk work licensing and the Task National requirements.
- Follow directions of the Rigging Supervisor and work in accordance with issued safety documents including SWMS, JSAs and other site-specific documents.
- Report all hazards to site Rigging Supervisor or person responsible for managing worksite and provide input to risk assessments, hazard identification and implementation of hazard controls.
- Undertake manual labour tasks which may include, loading and unloading of equipment, tower climbing, using hand tools, performing rigging operations, cabling and cable terminations, earthworks and digging for earth grids and pit and pipe works.
- Work at heights on roof tops, towers, mast structures, monopoles and using mechanical access plant such as elevating work platforms.
- Report all incidents and near misses to Rigging Supervisor, Site Controller or QHSE Manager.
- Ensures the upkeep and maintenance of all Task National assets including fleet vehicles, plant equipment, tools, electrical and rigging equipment.
- Attends and provides input into daily worksite pre start meetings and monthly toolbox meetings as required.
- Escalates conflictions in drawings, design or scope variations to the Rigging Supervisor.
- Operates company vehicles, plant and equipment as required.
- Undertakes construction and installation works in accordance with design drawings and client specifications.
- Reports for work fit for duty and free from the influence of alcohol and other drugs at all times and undergoes random, scheduled or suspicion drug & alcohol testing as required in accordance with Task National policies and procedures.
- Maintains currency of training and competency requirements including High Risk Work Licenses, heights and rescue training, internal and external inductions.
- Familiarises themselves with and adheres to company policies, plans and procedures.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- OHS General induction white card.
- Lineworker licence.
- VESI worker registration.
o VESI safety framework.
o VESI environmental framework.
- Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI) qualified.
- RB – Rigging Basic HRWL.
- WP – Work platform.
- Provide First Aid.
- Provide CPR.
- RF Awareness.
- WSAH – Work safely at heights.
- Tower rescue.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION
- Level 1 industrial rope access.
- Cert 3 in telecommunications cabling.
- Trade qualification.
- Cert 3 in ESI – Transmission Overhead.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to follow directions from leadership or management personnel.
- Ability to work unsupervised when required.
- Self-motivated – Able to use initiative and be self-driven.
- Attention to detail – A careful and concise approach to execution of works.
- Problem solving skills – Ability to work through complex rigging and cabling situations.
- Safety focused – Approach work tasks in a safe and compliant manner without risk-based behaviour.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 year working as a HV Lineman.
- Minimum of 1 year working as a rigger and preferably within the telecommunications sector.
- Minimum of 1 year working within the construction industry.
