The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, nonjudgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

The NBMLHD Youth Drug and Alcohol Team is seeking a dedicated Clinical or Forensic Psychologist to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care across a range of clinical settings within NBMLHD.

In this role, you'll work within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency framework, collaborating with internal teams across the Drug and Alcohol Service and NBMLHD, as well as external partners including the Department of Human Services, Department of Education, General Practitioners, Department of Justice, and residential treatment providers. Your work will involve conducting drug and alcohol intake and clinical assessments, delivering psychological interventions, facilitating group programs, providing assertive case management, and contributing to research, quality improvement initiatives, and program evaluations.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical or Forensic Psychology, full registration with the AHPRA and endorsement or working towards endorsement as a clinical or forensic psychologist (as appropriate to postgraduate qualification).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in the provision of drug and alcohol assessments and evidence based interventions for alcohol and other drug using clients.
  • High level of competence in the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence based psychological, cognitive/behaviour management and counselling interventions for patients with substance abuse problems.
  • Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from Indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • An ability to liaise with a range of relevant agencies and departments of the Local Health District.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of the multidisciplinary team in providing drug and alcohol services.
  • Proven high quality computer literacy, clinical documentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Current NSW drivers licence.
