Our client, a well-established business based in Brisbane, is seeking an Assistant Accountant on a 3-month contract with the potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate.

This position is ideal for someone who can start immediately or on very short notice who is looking to broaden their accounting experience in a supportive, hands-on, commercial environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance lead, you'll be involved in day-to-day finance operations and month-end processes, with scope to take on increasing responsibility as you grow in the role. Perfect for someone aiming to develop into a more well-rounded accounting professional.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with month-end preparation and journal entries
  • Reconcile bank accounts and key general ledger accounts
  • Support BAS preparation and other compliance reporting
  • Maintain and review the expense management system
  • Assist with fixed asset registers and reconciliations
  • Provide reporting support to the broader finance team
  • Liaise with internal teams and suppliers regarding procurement and payment queries
  • Contribute to process improvements across the finance function

About You:

  • Proven experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role, preferably within a multi-entity or complex organisation
  • Solid grasp of general ledger management, reconciliations, and month-end processes
  • Currently studying or recently completed an accounting qualification (CPA, CA, or relevant degree)
  • Comfortable using Excel and accounting software, with the ability to adapt to new systems quickly
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and eager to take on new challenges
