Moree New South Wales, Australia Hudson Full time $80,000 - $100,000 per year

The Opportunity: Be the Backbone of Governance in Moree

Are you an organised, detail-oriented professional with a sharp mind for compliance and policy?

Moree Plains Shire Council is seeking a Governance Coordinator to join their Legal & Governance team. This is a crucial, sole-contributor role, working closely with the Manager Legal & Governance to embed a culture of compliance and best practice across the organisation. If you thrive on delivering results and driving initiatives, have an exceptional attention to detail, and want to make a tangible impact, this is the role for you.

Salary: Up to $100k + Superannuation | Hours: 35-hour week + RDO every 3 weeks

A Look at the Role

This position is dynamic and hands-on, covering the full spectrum of Council governance. The Coordinator's key responsibilities will include:

  • Policy & Documentation: Leading the regular review of the Council's policies and procedures, including drafting amendments and conducting quality control checks for readability and legislative consistency. They will also review and draft policies.
  • Compliance Management: Developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance systems, including managing the legislative compliance register, Agency Information Guide, and register of material contracts.
  • Audit & Risk: Supporting the internal audit functions, managing the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC), and coordinating audits.
  • Statutory Duties: Operating as one of the Council's Public Interest Disclosure (PID) Officers and acting as the Privacy Contact Officer.
  • Support: Assisting with Code of Conduct complaints, maintaining the Council's delegations register, and handling requests under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW).

What They Are Looking For

The Council is open to a fresh thinker—perhaps someone with a legal/governance background from a university, a large organisation that produces high-level board reports, or even a great Executive Assistant from a HR consultancy with policy experience. Previous local government experience is NOT required, though it is desirable.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven Governance Experience: Practical experience in Legal and Governance functions and developed ability to interpret, apply, and advise on legislative practices.
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: They need someone who is great with words and can review, draft, and produce high-quality, professional documents and reports.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, combined with strong confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Organised & Productive: Excellent organisational skills and proven ability to manage user-friendly electronic systems (like delegation registers) to prioritise and meet set deadlines.
  • Required Qualification: A Class C Driver's Licence is essential.

A Note on Location & Flexibility: This role must be based in Moree. However, they offer flexibility around a roster; a mix of 2 or 3 days from home is fine. This is an office-based role; remote work for this position is not permitted.

Why Join Their Team?

The Manager is confident they can train and support someone in this role. If you have the right attitude and a sharp mind, they encourage you to apply.

Moree Plains Shire Council is committed to building a strong, robust community. You will play a key role in their success.

If you are ready to take on a critical role in local governance and compliance and are prepared to be based in Moree, they encourage your application
