About Us:

The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security facility providing state-wide assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system and is located within the North West Metropolitan Area, Department of Justice. MAP consists of the prison, the custody facilities at the County, Supreme and Appeal Courts and holding cells at St Vincent's Hospital for prisoners requiring outpatient medical treatment.

The position of the Assessment and Transition Coordinator is situated within the Offender Services Unit at the Melbourne Assessment Prison.

About the Role:

The Assessment and Transition Coordinator undertakes prisoner risk assessments using the approved CV assessment instrument, facilitates the parole application processes including liaison with the Adult Parole Board and Community Correctional Services and provides a range of support and services to assist prisoners to transition into, through and out of prison. This includes participating in the Case Management Review Meetings to develop and review progress against local plans; coordinating prisoner involvement in transitional programs; liaison and provision of assistance to external service providers; facilitating referrals and delivering and coordinating the delivery of the programs.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Participating in the development, coordination and delivery of prisoner risk assessment, parole application and pre-release services within a prison location.
  • Undertaking prisoner risk assessments and needs assessments, coordinate prisoner's applications for parole and contribute to the Case Management Review process.
  • Supporting the delivery of the CV Reintegration Program at the prison location.

About You:

As an ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated understanding of transition and reintegration issues and needs of prisoners.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer risk assessment tools with individual prisoners.
  • Demonstrated capacity or aptitude to work with clients who are difficult to engage individually and in group work settings.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a prison setting.

Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline is desirable. Demonstrated skills and experience in human services, welfare practice, education or related fields is also desirable.
