About the role

The Head of Humanitarian Diplomacy & Policy brings together our humanitarian diplomacy, government engagement, policy and research, movement relations and community engagement functions under one integrated division to support realise the organisation's strategy.

Leading a team who work collaboratively across the organisation, you will oversee the development of frameworks and operational plans to deliver humanitarian diplomacy goals and priorities, linking policy and research with engagement strategies and tactical plans. With a focus on strategic influence externally and strengthened internal coordination, the role supports long term impact and ongoing sustainable growth. This growth includes oversight of a government funding pipeline and funding proposals.

This role provides advice, technical support and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and other senior leaders.

What you will bring

  • Extensive and diverse knowledge and expertise in policy development, research, stakeholder engagement, government/public relations, communications and government/public sector funding and policy development processes.
  • Advanced relationship management, communication skills, negotiation and influencing skills with the proven ability to negotiate across stakeholders including at Ministerial and senior government levels.
  • Demonstrated success in influencing government policy and securing sustainable funding in a complex political environment.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing teams to recognise, respect and value diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals.
  • Deep understanding of Australian political systems, budget processes, and funding frameworks, as well as international humanitarian systems.
