Our staff predominately work in residential type environments including Outreach Support, Youth Residential Out of Home Care as well as supporting emergency placements in crisis accommodation, supervised family contact and placement support arrangements.

About the role

The House Manager role provides guidance and support to Youth Workers, engages with relevant stakeholders, and provides intensive therapeutic respite, cultural support, interventions, and temporary crisis accommodation to young people of First Nations and diverse backgrounds who experience complex to extreme behaviors. This role includes managing staff schedules, verifying timesheets, coordinating with external partners, and overseeing the allocation of resources. The House Manager will also ensure that all staffing needs are met to maintain high standards of care and support within Yalga Connect. Yalga Connect implements tailored plans and a client-centered approach to address individual needs, working holistically and collaboratively to achieve stability and permanency in primary placements.

About you

The ideal person for this role would be organised, adaptable, agile in their approach and open to learning. You will have the ability and skills to work with a range of stakeholders including key partners, Yalga Connect staff and clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Work within the principles of the child protection act 1999 (QLD) including the best interests of the children
  • Ensure the integrity of the Yalga Connect and the provision of high-quality care to young people
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor senior staff to achieve high-quality, culturally safe service delivery.
  • Drive a positive organisational culture grounded in Aboriginal values of respect, connection, and care.
  • Manage allocated program resources in line with Yalga Connects policies and procedures, applicable legislative standards and HSQF standards.
  • Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure staff are supported to undertake cultural and professional development.
  • Act as a cultural and organisational ambassador at external forums, events, and consultations.
  • Ensure services are community-driven and aligned with Aboriginal values and priorities.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results and maintain a level of grit and resilience to overcome challenges that are confronting.
  • Have knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of child protection including relevant legislation.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Minimum of six months of residential care management experience

Mandatory requirements:

  • Essential experience needs to have worked with Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people
  • A QLD Working with Children (Blue Card) or the ability to apply for one
  • Hold and maintain a full Australian Driver's License
  • Relevant qualifications in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field are desirable.
  • Ability to travel within Queensland to support activities.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours and on call requirements, as needed.
