Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - NETA discovery

Location: Remote (Global, Virtual Organization) Employment Type: Full-Time, Leadership Reporting To: The Board of Directors

About NETA discovery

NETA discovery is a groundbreaking, volunteer-led, non-profit, virtual research institute dedicated to transforming the understanding and treatment of epilepsy. Founded by Dr. Nathan James Barnett, we are building the world's largest virtual bioinformatics resource to pinpoint the biological causes of complex and rare epileptic disorders (e.g., Dravet Syndrome, KBG syndrome). Our mission is driven by a passion to use genomics, transcriptomics, and advanced neuroinformatics to accelerate personalized medicine and improve the lives of those affected by epilepsy globally.

The Opportunity

As CEO, you will step into a pivotal leadership role following the successful launch and foundation-laying by our Founder, Dr. Barnett (now Chairman). You will be the visionary driver and operational leader, responsible for scaling our global research network, securing sustainable funding, and translating our scientific data into real-world impact for the epilepsy community. This is a unique chance to lead a truly global, science-first non-profit in the digital age.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic & Operational Leadership

Set and execute the strategic vision in partnership with the Chairman and Board, focusing on scaling NETA's bioinformatics platform and expanding our global volunteer network.

Oversee all operational functions of the virtual institute, ensuring governance, legal compliance, and ethical standards are met across all international research collaborations.

Foster a high-performance culture, leading and mentoring the senior volunteer management team.

  1. Fundraising & Financial Stewardship

Develop and lead a robust global fundraising strategy, focusing on securing major grants (government, institutional), corporate sponsorships, and individual donations to ensure long-term sustainability.

Act as the primary external representative for NETA discovery with funders, philanthropic organizations, and partner institutions.

Ensure rigorous financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  1. Research & Community Impact

Work closely with the Chief Scientific Officer (or equivalent) to drive the research agenda, ensuring the quality and integrity of our bioinformatics resource and data outputs.

Champion advocacy efforts and build strong partnerships with patient advocacy groups, clinical centers, and the broader epilepsy community to maximize research relevance and translational impact.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

Proven experience (5+ years) in senior executive leadership (CEO, COO, Executive Director), preferably within a non-profit, research, or life sciences/biotech organization.

Demonstrated successful track record in large-scale fundraising, grant writing, and securing institutional funding.

Exceptional strategic planning and operational management skills, comfortable leading a fully remote/virtual, global organization.

Strong financial acumen and experience managing complex budgets.

Preferred Skills & Experience

An advanced degree (PhD, MD, MBA, or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., Neuroscience, Genomics, Public Health, Business Management).

Familiarity with the landscape of bioinformatics, genomics research, or rare disease advocacy.

Outstanding communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific goals to diverse audiences (scientists, donors, patients, policymakers).

A deep personal passion for epilepsy research and patient advocacy is highly valued.

Why Join NETA discovery?

This is more than a leadership role; it's a chance to save lives and redefine the future of epilepsy research. You will work alongside world-class scientists and dedicated volunteers, leaving an indelible mark on global health.

If you are a strategic leader ready to turn data into hope, we encourage you to apply

To Apply: Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and vision for NETA discovery.
