This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children, young people, and families while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of tropical North Queensland.

About the Role

You'll lead a small but impactful team based in Cairns, providing support across multiple remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This role combines leadership and hands-on service delivery, overseeing a team of four Support Specialists while also fulfilling the Team Leader function due to the service's size.

The service primarily supports Kinship Carers, with a smaller number of General Foster Carers, offering culturally responsive and community-focused care solutions.

Role Responsibilities

The combined Service Manager/Team Leader role will be responsible for:

  • Staff management and supervision
  • Carer management and support
  • Quality and compliance oversight
  • Departmental and ACCO relationships
  • Financial reporting and delegations
  • Service contract management

Please refer to the attached Position Description for detailed role requirements.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Purpose-Driven Role: Lead a dedicated team delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services that support vulnerable children and families, and Foster and Kinship Carers.
  • Community Impact: Be part of a regionally focused organisation that values cultural diversity and works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Lifestyle Appeal: Cairns offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle, access to the Great Barrier Reef, lush rainforests, and a vibrant local culture
  • Career Growth: Opportunities for professional development, leadership training, and career progression within a supportive organisation

For the right applicant, we are willing to offer a relocation assistance package, capped at $5,000, which may include:

  • Removalist expenses.
  • Travel (mileage reimbursement or flights).
  • Temporary accommodation (up to 4 weeks).

About You and What You Will Bring:

You're an experienced and values-driven leader with a background in social welfare and child protection. You bring strong management skills, cultural awareness, and a commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. With sound financial acumen, technical proficiency, and a collaborative approach, you're ready to lead a small team and make a meaningful impact.

To be considered for the role, you will also have:

  • Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or other related discipline
  • Applied knowledge of financial management systems and budgeting
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel intrastate periodically
  • Minimum three years' experience in a management role in a social welfare context
  • Demonstrated experience in child protection work
  • Proven ability to identify business development opportunities, operating model requirements, and customer experience improvements

A high level of understanding and knowledge of working with First Nations clients is highly desirable, given the service's reach into Cape York and remote communities.

Checks Required:

  • National Police Certificate
  • Working with Children (Blue Card)
  • Child Safety Screening (LCS)
  • National Personal Insolvency Check
