Inspire Active Kids | Lead with Passion | No AFL Experience Needed

Love sport? Experience working with kids? Want to make a difference in your local community?

Whether you've played Aussie rules, rugby league, soccer, netball, cricket or any other sport – your experience is valuable here.

We're looking for energetic, community-minded people to join our team as Game Development Officers. You don't need to know the ins and outs of AFL – just a passion for helping kids stay active, learning new skills, and enjoy the fun of team sport.

About Us

The AFL is dedicated to growing the game from grassroots to elite levels, working tirelessly to connect communities with Ausie Rules. Whether it's delivering thrilling events, engaging with fans, or running impactful community programs, we're all about bringing the game to life for everyone to enjoy.

Our mission is simple: For everyone to love and connect with Australia's game.

We're committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in our programs. Accordingly, candidates must hold a valid Working with Children Check.

We proudly support diversity and inclusion across our workforce and the communities we serve. Our game is for everyone, and we encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as candidates from diverse backgrounds.

About the Role in Regional NSW

In regional areas across NSW, AFL is continuing to grow, and we're looking for passionate people to help us build strong connections in local communities. You'll play a vital role in introducing kids to the game, many for the very first time – and helping sport be more inclusive, fun, and accessible.

Who This Role Could Suit

This role is great for people who:

  • Have coached, played or been involved in any sport and know how to engage and motivate kids.
  • Are studying education, sport science, or youth work – or are looking for experience in those areas.
  • Are parents or carers re-entering the workforce who love working with kids and want flexible hours.
  • Are looking for a career change or semi-retired looking for flexible, meaningful work that keeps them active and connected to the community
  • Want to give back to the community and promote active, healthy lifestyles for kids.

What You'll Be Doing – A Day in the Life:

As a Game Development Officer, you'll be out in the community helping kids get moving and feel part of something bigger through team sport. Your day might include:

  • Delivering fun, skills-based sessions in schools and clubs – we'll teach you the AFL activities, you bring the energy and engagement.
  • Running Auskick or Superkick programs that help kids build confidence, make friends, and love being active.
  • Supporting community events and game days, creating positive experiences for kids and families.
  • Championing inclusion, working on programs that support multicultural communities, girls in sport, Indigenous programs, and kids of all abilities.

What You Need to Know – Flexibility and Impact: This is a casual role, perfect for those who thrive in dynamic, community-focused environments.

Hours can vary, ranging from quick, two-hour shifts to longer stints during peak program periods. Flexibility is key – some weeks may be busier than others, so if you're adaptable and ready to jump in when needed, this role is for you.

Most shifts typically occur:

  • During school hours for school programs and Competitions
  • Before or after school for Auskick and Superkick
  • After school for AFL Nines

What We're Looking For:

You don't need to be a footy expert, we're after people who are:

  • Confident working with kids, with a fun, positive energy.

  • Great communicators who can connect with children, families, and school staff.

  • Reliable, independent, and proactive, especially when working solo in schools or at events.
  • Open to learning new things, including AFL activities and programs.
  • Hold (or are willing to obtain) a Working with Children Check (NSW).
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transport.

If you are based in the Central Coast, Hunter, Central West, Northern Tablelands, or along the North Coast – this is your chance to help kids stay active and involved in team sport.
