About the role
The Team Leader will guide and coordinate a team of professional Therapeutic Case Managers and Case Managers OOHC who are responsible for delivering high-quality person-centred services to children and young people, their families and carers, using contemporary practices, in any or all of the following areas:
- Foster care and/or after care support
- Voluntary out-of-home care
- OOHC to Adoptions
- Guardianship
- Restoration
The Team Leader will directly coordinate the day-to-day operations and ensuring that staff are well supported, clients' needs are met, and internal and external reporting obligations are fulfilled.
You will be responsible for:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and reflective supervision to a small team of caseworkers.
- Deliver high quality, culturally responsive assessment and case management to children, young people and families within the PSP.
- Promote contemporary case management practice inclusive of cultural planning, positive behavioural support, and permanency strategies.
- Apply trauma-informed principles under an evidence-based practice framework aligned to the ARC, CALM or WEAVE model, and Family Spirit's therapeutic philosophy.
- Facilitate robust and respectful engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including participation in Family Group Conferencing.
- Ensure practice is consistent with current legal and statutory requirements under NSW child protection and adoption legislation.
- Ensuring case work practice is in line with Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG) standards.
- Support and contribute to a strong team culture, aligned with Family Spirit's Mission, Vision and Values.
Essential Criteria:
To be a successful candidate, you will have:
- A minimum of a degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Community Services, Teaching, Nursing, Psychology or Family Therapy. Aboriginality is recognised as a valid and valuable qualification.
- A minimum of three years demonstrated management experience in out of home care.
- Demonstrated experience providing case management services to families and children at risk, or children and young people in out-of-home care.
- Proven ability to supervise or mentor staff through individual and/or group-based forums.
- Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed practice and cultural safety.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, mediation capabilities and an understanding of Family Group Conferencing principles.
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation and compliance frameworks related to child protection and adoption in NSW.
- Current NSW Working with Children Check.
- Current or willingness to obtain a NDIS Worker Check.
- Current valid Driver's Licence and access to a well-maintained vehicle suitable for work use.
Desirable Criteria
- Postgraduate training in trauma, therapeutic practice, counselling, theology or family systems
- Experience in mentoring, reflective supervision, or informal practice leadership
- Knowledge of ARC, CALM, Circle of Security, or similar relational frameworks
- Cultural humility and experience supporting Aboriginal children, carers, and communities
- Experience in faith-based or values-driven organisations, or a strong personal sense of vocation
