Opportunity + Offer
Working closely with General Counsel, and the Assistant General Counsel, you will oversee a portfolio of high-profile class actions, managing external counsel and litigation strategy. This 12-month parental leave contract offers development for a private practice litigator or in-house lawyer ready to step up.
- Lead litigation matters with significant commercial and reputational stakes
- Class actions exposure with hands-on ownership of strategy and execution
- Support personal injury claims and complaints
- Work closely with senior legal leaders in a high-performing, collaborative team
- Hybrid working (Tue–Wed–Thu in-office)
- 12-month FTC with a performance-based completion bonus
- Scope to expand commercial skills across BAU in-house legal support
Responsibilities
- Manage large-scale litigation and class actions from end to end
- Instruct and oversee external counsel, budgets, discovery, and witness preparation
- Manage communications and reports to internal stakeholders, both legal and commercial
- Advise on consumer law, personal injury, regulatory, insurance, security and reputational matters
- Respond to government and regulatory investigations
- Support internal teams with legal claims and project risk
- Assist with corporate reporting and legal policy updates
- Build cross-functional relationships to embed legal risk awareness
- Advise operational teams on a wide variety of commercial and consumer matters
Requirements
- Law degree and an Australian Practising Certificate (or eligibility)
- 5+ years' PQE with strong experience in class actions or complex litigation
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale matters and external counsel
- Detail-oriented and commercially astute with sound judgment under pressure
- In-house experience is advantageous but not essential
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Resilience and drive to succeed in a demanding and fast-moving environment
