General Manager, Health Services
About St John Ambulance QLD:
St John Ambulance Queensland (SJAQ) is a self-funding charitable organisation dedicated to helping people in sickness, distress, suffering, or danger. They have been saving lives for 140 years and internationally are part of a wider organisation with a long and honourable history.
Their vision is to be the charity of choice, dedicated to the service of humanity, enhancing the lives of all people and their communities, and a trusted partner through their life's journey, a leader in the field in First Aid and community health resilience.
About the Role:
The General Manager, Health Services is responsible for leading the delivery of frontline health services across Queensland, including pre-hospital care, first aid at local and regional events, and ophthalmic services, primarily provided by a dedicated volunteer workforce.
A key focus of the role is advancing health equity, ensuring all Queensland communities have access to essential health and first aid services, including through initiatives such as the St John Eye Van.
In addition, the General Manager will lead the growth of the St John youth program within Health Services hubs, creating a safe and welcoming environment where young people can develop as trusted partners in times of need and future leaders in humanitarian, health, and first aid services.
Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, this role contributes to the broader organisational strategy while building community capacity, resilience, and wellbeing in line with St John Ambulance Queensland's mission, "With you in times of need."
About the Person:
We are seeking an inspiring, dynamic, and transformational leader to take the helm of Health Services across Queensland. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, people-focused environment and possesses exceptional emotional intelligence, enabling them to motivate, develop, and empower teams to deliver their very best. They are a strategic thinker with a strong ability to translate vision into action, driving both operational excellence and sustainable outcomes.
While not mandatory, tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in a health-related field would be highly regarded, as would AHPRA registration as a nurse, paramedic, or equivalent with significant clinical operational leadership experience.
The organisation's core values—Humanity, Excellence, Respect & Integrity, Diversity, Collaboration, and Innovation—serve as the foundation for all aspects of its work. It fosters a collaborative environment where team members share a common commitment to how they treat one another, the individuals and communities they serve, their supporters, and all those they engage with in their roles. It is therefore essential that the successful candidate demonstrates strong alignment with these values and a genuine commitment to living them in both leadership and practice.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a leader who is passionate about health equity, community wellbeing, and nurturing the next generation of future leaders within St John Ambulance Queensland.
