Mechanical Fitter / Fitter-Machinist

Mara Global Foods is a family-owned food ingredient supplier located in Shannon Brook (Approx 10 mins from Casino).

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter or Fitter-Machinist to join our Maintenance team to ensure the ongoing, reliability, safety and efficiency of our fixed plant, property and equipment. This hands-on role is vital in keeping our operations running smoothly through proactive maintenance, swift response to breakdowns and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out preventative and routine maintenance, troubleshoot and perform delegated activities to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency of factory lines and equipment.
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns & urgent repairs to keep production moving and working in partnership with the production and quality team to achieve production targets.
  • Supporting maintenance projects, equipment upgrades and adherence to all company and legislative safety standards.
  • Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines; overhauling & repairing mechanical parts & fluid power equipment.
  • Observe, listen, maintain, troubleshoot and repair operating machines & site equipment to diagnose malfunctions & carry out necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Fine tolerance mechanical fitting duties.
  • Fabrication skills.
  • Turning and milling operations.
  • Carry out machining of parts and components as required.
  • Repairing & machining of components on grain conveyors
  • Checking fabricated & assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance & fit using precision measuring instruments.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Mechanical Fitter or Fitter/Machinist trade qualification
  • Ability to follow instructions and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to problem solve to troubleshoot manufacturing plant issues and identifying system faults.
  • Reliable and looking for long term employment.
  • Experience working with diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and auto electrics.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to various jobs as required as each day is different depending on priority jobs.
  • Work in a team environment reporting to Maintenance Manager.
  • Available to attend call outs (shared between team) as required.
  • Available to work overtime when required or weekends during seasonal periods.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and capability to deliver quality work.
  • Basic welding competency (desirable)
  • Forklift licence (preferred)
