We have a current opportunity for
Systems Engineers
, on a contract basis within the Defence sector. These roles are based in
Canberra, ACT
. The contract is for an
initial 12 month period, with a 3 x 12 month extension option
.

Start: circa 16 December 2025

DSS Skill Set: Level 2 & 3 - Systems and Software Engineering - Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineers will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Planning, development and management of project capability definition documentation (within the engineering discipline) including the Program OCD, Project OCD-Lite(s), User Need Statements, Test Plans, the Test and Evaluation Master Plan and FPS(s).
  • Planning and management of project risk reduction activities.
  • Planning and management of project requirements setting activities.
  • Providing support to technology environmental scans, and engagement with industry and within the Program.
  • Stakeholder Engagement that spans engineering management, design authorities, integration authorities, integrated logistic support.
  • Contribute to traditional project acquisition activities that include: Risk Management, FIC Management, Integrated Logistic Support planning, Cost Estimation and Issues Resolution
  • Management and mentoring of the Level 2 Systems Engineer, and demonstrating collaborative behaviours with other Land C4 project staff (L3).

Minimum mandatory requirements:

  • AGSVA Security clearance.
  • Defence experience.
  • Demonstrated experience to undertake the task successfully in an agile environment (L3) or with limited direction (L2).
  • Experience in preparing and delivering project documentation expected under the Defence Capability Life Cycle, including the drafting of Concept of Employments and Operational Concept Documents (L3) or support of (L2).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with Defence stakeholders including ADF, APS and contractors.
  • Systems Engineering qualifications with a minimum of eight years' experience (L3).
  • Systems Engineering, or similar undergraduate qualification relevant to the ICT field (L2).
  • Understanding of the One Defence Capability System.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Project roles at the Capability Manager level (opposed to the Delivery Group) for pre-Gate 2 projects.
  • Multi-disciplinary skills such as communications engineering, risk management, test and evaluation, project management, model-based systems engineering, enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge in open architectures, to support the project design an approach that allows rapid integration of commercial technologies.
