Our state government client based in Perth, requires a Principal Project Officer for a temporary period of 5-6 months with the possibility to extend. They are seeking someone to start as soon as possible but are open to waiting for the right candidate.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the position will manage a small team whilst also being responsible for managing one or more projects throughout their entire lifecycle. This role involves initiating and developing business cases, preparing funding proposals, engaging with stakeholders and the community, designing and commissioning services, and overseeing project monitoring, evaluation, and closure. The position may also lead or contribute to strategic planning and ensure that project outcomes align with organisational goals and stakeholder expectations.

Your new role

As a Principal Project Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage initiatives that align with divisional goals.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and advice for executives, ministers, and governance bodies.
  • Build strategic partnerships through effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Conduct and oversee research, analysis, and evaluations to support decision-making.
  • Design and commission human services in collaboration with community and sector stakeholders.
  • Support the development and monitoring of project plans, programs, and strategies.
  • Represent the project on internal and external committees and working groups.
  • Engage in negotiations and consultations with government, industry, and community stakeholders.
  • Promote inclusive decision-making and foster team development and empowerment.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Extensive experience in initiating, managing, and delivering projects within set timeframes, including evaluation and review.
  • Strong skills in research, analysis, and problem-solving, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience in designing and commissioning human services or developing policy and strategy, including stakeholder consultation and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, engage stakeholders, and present information clearly at all levels.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships, contribute to team success, and motivate others.
