The Aboriginal Teaching and Learning Directorate leads, influences and supports cultural responsiveness across the organisation. This includes developing and informing policy, resources and professional learning and influencing system strategy and whole-of-government initiatives and priorities that support and strengthen the cultural safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people. Our objective is to ensure that the research, design, delivery and evaluation of policies, programs and services are informed by national and state government priorities including the Aboriginal Empowerment Strategy and the Department's Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.
If you have experience creating culturally safe learning environments and meeting the learning needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their families and communities and have an ability to examine your own personal identity, culture and history and how these affect and/or support others to be culturally responsive, we encourage you to apply.
The Role
As a Principal Education Officer, you will build the professional capability of school leaders, teachers and Department staff to strengthen culturally responsive practice in schools and across the agency.
As part of a diverse team, you will be innovative and creative in the design, delivery and evaluation of professional learning and facilitate transformative conversations with staff to drive system change.
Suitable applicants will model culturally responsive leadership and demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of the experiences of Aboriginal young people and the impact of these on their cultural safety, wellbeing and engagement at school.
