JS Careers is proud to be partnering with a leading Australian investment management firm to source a Senior Legal Counsel to support their commercial and regulatory legal activities.

This role will provide legal thought leadership and support, as a valued business partner, in relation to the firm's corporate matters and investment activities.

This senior role will provide informed legal advice and support on commercial negotiations in relation to specific investment opportunities.

Required skills and experience:

  • Responsibility for reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, transaction documents and other legal agreements of moderate to significant complexity directly with external third parties as required to develop and deliver specific investment transactions, often working in conjunction with external legal advisors.
  • Providing legal support to the CEO, the Executive Team and other senior staff on corporate matters, typically on a time-critical basis.
  • Providing ongoing support with respect to compliance, reporting and contract management.
  • Maintaining the contract database with information on all contracts.
  • Participation in risk management and mitigation processes.
  • Partnering with other business functions to maintain intellectual property compliance, specifically in areas such as confidentiality, trademarks and copyright.
  • Supporting regulatory compliance programs, including Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Finance, Privacy and Competition and Consumer Act.
  • Management of external legal advisors to ensure the delivery of quality and relevant legal advice within time and budget.
  • Timely support to the organisation on both general strategic issues and specific areas of individual responsibility.

Required experience :

  • Degree-educated and qualified solicitor;
  • Seven plus years' legal experience gained in a mid to top-tier law firm and/or in-house experience, with specific experience in the asset management or investment sector;
  • Experience with compliance, financial regulation, general corporate and commercial work will be well regarded.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of general corporate transactional work;
  • Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve allocated tasks on time;
  • Strong legal and commercial negotiation skills;
  • Excellent contract drafting and writing skills and ability to efficiently structure commercial transactions.
