An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Assistant Development Manager to join the DOMA group in Newcastle
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Development Manager, the Assistant Development Manager will work closely with the development team to support the successful delivery of assigned projects within defined time, cost, quality and safety parameters.
This role involves a blend of project administration, cost control, governance, and stakeholder coordination, ensuring that all project elements are effectively managed. The position requires strong organisational skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-pressured environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Senior Development Manager with key project functions including cost reporting, development program updates, service provider performance monitoring, risk register maintenance, and quality assurance reviews
- Prepare and maintain all required project governance, reporting, and administrative documentation
- Track project progress against the approved development programme and provide regular updates to the project team and key stakeholders
- Monitor milestones and ensure alignment with project targets and delivery dates
- Identify, document, and monitor project risks; implement mitigation strategies; and review regularly to ensure risks remain controlled
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislative requirements and risk management protocols, including monitoring the performance of appointed builders and contractors
- Communicate effectively with all project stakeholders, including internal teams, clients, contractors, and consultants, to ensure project alignment
- Liaise with client departments and service providers to coordinate project activities and maintain delivery schedules
- Assist with procurement processes including tender research, contractor engagement, and preparation of contractual documents
- Support the drafting, editing, and administration of contracts and agreements
- Assist in preparing bids for future work, including developing bid plans, liaising with the risk team, and collating research on potential opportunities
- Produce high-quality reports for the development team, senior management, and Board as required
- Actively promote innovation, contributing ideas for process improvements and operational efficiencies
Skills & Experience
- A recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Contract Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–4 years post-university professional experience in property development, with experience in the mixed-use or residential sector highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of property development processes and project lifecycles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to produce professional reports and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and driven, with a passion for delivering quality outcomes to clients.
- Team-oriented with a growth mindset, adaptable to working in a small, high-performing team environment.
