We are seeking a
senior Conversation Designer
to take the reins as a
Practice Leader
; someone who thrives at the intersection of language, logic, and code. This role demands a
master practitioner of Context and Prompt Engineering
and AI architecture, capable of transforming complex user goals into intuitive, robust, and scalable conversational experiences across voice and chat platforms. You will combine
executive-level strategic thinking
with sophisticated technical fluency to architect elegant, invisible UX and elevate our entire practice.

What You Bring: Your Core Arsenal

We are not seeking just another designer; we are looking for a

• Senior Leadership & Domain Mastery:
  You have
  3–5+ years of specialised experience
  in Conversational Design, UX Writing, or Prompt Engineering, coupled with a proven track record of
  team or practice leadership
  .
• Context Engineering Expertise:
  Proven, hands-on expertise in
  Context Engineering
  ; the ability to strategically design and manage the entire information environment (data, tools, and instructions) around AI models to deliver optimal, precise, and timely user interactions.
• Practice Definition & Standards:
  The strategic ability to
  set standards, define quality bars
  , and establish scalable, repeatable methodologies for our client-facing work, including sharp reasoning on
  platform selection (build vs. buy)
  .
• Executive Presence & Commercial Acumen:
  Exceptional
  gravitas and executive presence
  required to engage and advise clients independently, including strong commercial negotiation and relationship management skills with
  C-level stakeholders
  .
• Hands-On, Entrepreneurial Drive:
  A true
  self-starter
  with a
  startup mindset
  ; you are comfortable leading significant change, making brave decisions, thriving in ambiguity, and maintaining a high level of direct involvement in
  client delivery (75–80%)

• Human-Centered Foundation:
  A background rooted in
  linguistics, communications, or a related discipline
  that prioritises human-centered design, complemented by a track record of
  coaching and mentoring
  designers across the team.

What You'll Deliver: The Impact You'll Make

You won't just set the vision; you'll be instrumental in bringing it to life. This role is a direct path to
conversation design leadership
, empowering you to set the strategic direction while maintaining a critical hands-on delivery focus.

• Strategic Architecture & Execution (The Core Focus):
  You will personally
  architect and execute the most sophisticated conversational flows
  through advanced prompt engineering, remaining
  heavily on the tools (75-80% of your time)
  to ensure maximum efficiency and business impact across high-stakes client projects.
• Pioneering the Field:
  You will be at the
  forefront of cutting-edge voice AI conversation design
  , actively defining the standards for our client work and leading by example in its execution.
• Elevating the Practice:
  You will
  define our internal processes, methodologies, and quality bars
  . This includes leading a team, coaching designers, and collaborating with strategic partners to
  uplift the seniority and overall output
  of the entire practice.
• Shaping the Industry:
  You will have
  direct influence on the structure and evolution of the Conversation Design role
  within VERSA, using this influence to directly affect and
  lead the wider industry's best practices
  .

What success looks like

The focus during your first three months is on demonstrating immediate, hands-on value and laying the critical foundation for our practice's future. You will immediately get into client work, owning key relationships from onboarding through strategic delivery. Simultaneously, you will complete a rigorous assessment of our current processes and propose an action plan; including necessary technology and systems to begin implementing the tools required to continuously develop high-standard client work.

By the end of your first year, you will have cemented your position as a Practice Leader, driving both strategic influence and delivery excellence. You will have successfully built and formalised the entire Conversation AI practice, defining scalable processes, quality standards, and methodologies across the team. This work will have measurably uplifted the seniority and overall output of our designers. Crucially, you will be leading a significant client delivery portfolio, having positioned VERSA as a recognised thought leader in cutting-edge conversational AI design.
