Role purpose:

We are seeking a Level 2 Systems Engineer to support within CASG's engineering management framework. This role focuses on delivering effective sustainment of complex products and projects through robust engineering governance and planning. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and maintenance of product-specific Engineering Management Plans (EMP) and create planning artefacts.

The ideal candidate has strong systems engineering expertise, excellent planning skills, and a sound understanding of Defence engineering standards. The role requires autonomy, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, industry partners, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and deliver sustainable, value-for-money outcomes in a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of product-specific Engineering Management Plans (EMP) to support effective sustainment of products and projects.
• Develop planning artefacts that define the Product's Engineering Management System, aligned with ASDEFCON, including subordinate plans as required.
• Execute engineering plans in accordance with endorsed Product Schedules, Work Take-On agreements, and contractual arrangements.
• Identify and define Product Engineering function scope, roles, skills, Technical Authority levels, responsibilities, and effort required for scheduled releases and BAU activities.
• Plan and manage engineering processes for milestones such as CDRL reviews, System Safety Working Groups, budget negotiations, and Change Boards.
• Respond to and manage disaster recovery, incidents, failures, or outages impacting system reliability and availability.
• Review and assure CDRL deliverables and vendor work packages for safety, fitness for purpose, and environmental compliance.
• Maintain and deliver correct configuration baselines with associated technical data, including ILS and logistics factors, in line with agreed schedules.
• Engage with and conform to Stakeholder Configuration Change Boards (including DDG boards for ICT releases) without compromising product integrity.
• Define and implement an effective System Safety Management System, including regular System Safety Working Groups.
• Incorporate workforce attributes such as security clearance, qualifications, and competencies to achieve Engineering & Technical outcomes and maintain Technical Authority.
• Manage obsolescence and growth (capacity) as key planning considerations.
• Interface with other capability systems and adjust plans to align with evolving Government, Departmental, and Capability Manager requirements.
• Perform other engineering management tasks as directed

• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute engineering management plans and artefacts aligned with Defence standards.
• High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on risk mitigation and technical assurance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality technical documentation.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups.
• Sound understanding of configuration management, system safety, and engineering governance frameworks.
• Strategic thinking and adaptability to changing requirements and priorities.

Essential Experience and/or Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and engineering management within Defence or a similar regulated environment.
• Understanding of ASDEFCON (Support) requirements and Defence engineering standards.
• Experience in configuration management, system safety, and technical assurance processes.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, with capacity to liaise effectively with stakeholders and service providers.
• Formal qualifications in engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded
