Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Kraken Full time $180,000 - $250,000 per year

Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe

Kraken
powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We're a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It's a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

**The company:

Octopus Energy Group is a global energy transition company touching nearly every point in the energy value chain and is valued at over $9 billion. It is one of energy-tech's fastest-growing private companies, having won innumerable prizes in just 8 years of existence

Kraken Technologies launched to market five years ago, offering energy utilities one simple end-to-end customer management and local flexibility optimisation solution (Kraken) to help them and their customers transition to a decarbonised future. The Kraken platform is effectively the operating system for utilities, at the core of how they run their business

Kraken Technologies is growing rapidly, disrupting the incumbent tech landscape, with over 64 million end-customer accounts contracted across 11 markets globally and managing the optimisation of over 65GW. Kraken has secured licensing deals with large international energy clients to replace their core technology stack and re-image their operations with an unblemished track record of transformation success.

We are tracking toward 100 million customer accounts on the platform by 2027

About the role:

We are looking for a strategic and impact-driven Operations Implementation Director to lead cultural and operational transformation for energy retailers transitioning to the Kraken platform. This role is suited for a proven change leader with experience in operational restructuring, stakeholder engagement, and embedding new ways of working at scale within complex organisations.

As the Operations Implementation Director, you will be at the forefront of supporting energy retailers through major shifts in their operating models and organisational culture. While Kraken is the enabler, your focus will be on ensuring that clients fundamentally transform the way they work — aligning people, processes, and behaviours with the opportunities unlocked by the platform.

You'll work closely with executive stakeholders, operational teams, and cross-functional Kraken experts to drive adoption of new workflows, mindsets, and service models. Success in this role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of operational excellence, and the ability to influence and guide organisations through large-scale change.

This is not a technical implementation or training role — it's about leading real transformation, challenging legacy thinking, and enabling our clients to operate more efficiently, customer-centrically, and sustainably in the green energy future.

You'll play a key role in our mission to make sustainable living accessible and affordable — by helping utilities build the operational backbone to thrive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

What you'll do:

  • Be accountable for the successful execution of client ops implementation programs using our Build-Operate-Transfer methodology, which covers technology, operations and culture transformation
  • Guide, support and ensure transformational success of clients as they implement the Kraken operating model
  • Develop deep relationships with our C-suite client executives and operations directors
  • Coach, mentor and grow the Australia and APAC implementation team so they can effectively drive and own their own successful transformations
  • Collaborate internally to make Kraken a global leader in Human Design and organisational culture in Australia
  • Communicate effectively to stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Set the direction and pace for program execution. Managing internal and external expectations, removing blockers and ensure the client internal transformation team team are equipped with, and effectively utilising all the right tools to successfully transform their business
  • Understand the program details, spot problems before they get big, report progress to the client and internal stakeholders and also run workshops and interventions
  • Embody the Kraken ways of working. Provide support and feedback to members of the Kraken team and reinforce an environment of psychological safety

What you'll have:

  • Extensive experience in Operations (ideally in the Australian market)
  • Strong experience leading large change / transformation projects, ideally in utilities or similar industries (e.g. telecom, public sector)Experience of working in an agile environment
  • World class facilitator that can create thought-provoking workshops and interventions leading to authentic shifts in behaviour for clients
  • Great understanding of humans and the impact that change has on individuals and teams
  • Proven experience presenting and negotiating with C-suite clients and initiating strategic conversations
  • Problem solver with an ability to focus conversations on the things that truly matter
  • Ability to understand what success looks like for the client and laser-focused on how to enable them to achieve that without always saying yes
  • A people person, who can create high performance environments for teams to thrive in, using our cultural norms such as kindness, trust and making people feel like they matter
  • Team player who can work effectively with national and global teams
  • Client and quality focus; highly effective at building and improving customer relationships as peers
  • Mobile - You will be expected to invest in face-to-face relationship building with our clients and internal teams. Frequent travel will be expected, for periods of a few days up to a couple of weeks
