What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive legal and policy research to inform the development of human rights jurisprudence and support strategic decision-making within the team.
  • Draft clear, accurate correspondence and legal documents under the supervision of senior lawyers, ensuring all materials meet high standards of quality and compliance.
  • Contribute actively to the preparation, drafting, and proofing of legal submissions, policy documents, and other key publications produced by the organisation.
  • Attend meetings with internal stakeholders and external partners, file court documents efficiently, and participate in occasional court hearings as required.
  • Maintain meticulous records and manage administrative responsibilities with close attention to detail to ensure smooth operation of legal processes.
  • Support the team's interventions in court proceedings by preparing relevant documentation and assisting with case management tasks.
  • Assist in developing educative materials for the broader legal profession, helping to build knowledge and understanding of anti-discrimination laws and human rights issues.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across different teams within the directorate to maximise collective impact through proactive action.
  • Embrace new challenges by adapting quickly to changes in priorities or procedures while maintaining a positive attitude.

What You Bring

  • A completed law degree or postgraduate qualification is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting thorough legal research and drafting clear written materials for various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively within a team-focused environment.
  • Resilience when facing changing circumstances or challenging workloads, coupled with flexibility in adapting approaches as needed.
  • Sound judgement supported by common sense thinking and an ability to consider strategic implications when analysing information or making recommendations.
  • A high level of enthusiasm for learning new concepts quickly along with initiative in taking on new responsibilities or projects.
  • Outstanding communication skills, confidence presenting information clearly at meetings or in documentation.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when managing administrative tasks such as record-keeping or word processing duties using standard office software packages.
