Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Department of Justice Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

About Us:

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.

About your opportunity:

As a Legal Support Officer, you'll take on a vital role in ensuring the success of the DNA File Review Project by performing the following key responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality administrative assistance to Principal Legal Officers as they prepare detailed reviews of historical criminal cases, with a focus on Forensic DNA evidence.

• Maintain accurate records of review activities, conduct legal research as requested, and provide general support to ensure the smooth operation of the project.

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, including Courts, victims and their families, and both chamber-based and project-based staff.

• Work closely within a small, dedicated team of legal and administrative professionals to deliver timely and accurate results in a challenging and complex legal environment.

• Ensure an organised and reliable bring-up system is in place to manage project matters effectively.

• Provide sensitive and empathetic communication to victims and witnesses, in consultation with Victim Liaison Officers.

As a Legal Support Officer, you will bring your expertise to the role by demonstrating:

• Proven experience in delivering high-quality administrative support, with advanced computer literacy and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and database management.

• Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the capability to prioritise and manage tasks effectively in a fast-paced legal environment.

• High-level written communication abilities, complemented by excellent interpersonal skills to engage confidently with a range of stakeholders.

• A cooperative and team-oriented approach, working effectively with others to achieve shared goals and organisational success.

• A commitment to ethical behaviour, respect, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions and work practices.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a role; it's your opportunity to engage with some of the state's most pressing legal matters while making a genuine difference in the community. Think you're ready for the challenge?
