This position within Qantas Group Assets and Services is crucial for delivering transformational change by optimising asset capability delivery and driving operational efficiency across the business.

As a Principal Equipment Specialist, you will lead the specification, design and modification of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), translating operational requirements into innovative asset solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and compliance across the Qantas Group. You will be accountable for driving GSE transformation initiatives, including capital acquisition and improvement projects, from planning through to execution and implementation. Your role will involve managing the specification and design standards to ensure alignment with WHSE requirements, regulatory compliance, and internal standards such as CRMS and ERMS.

Reporting to the Design, Modification & Reliability Manager, you will oversee design and modification programs and provide leadership and guidance to equipment specialists and other members of the asset management team. With a strong focus on commerciality and continuous improvement, you will manage risks associated with asset lifecycle activities, from acquisition to disposal, and ensure accurate management of asset data within the maintenance information system. You will create and apply standards and policies to manage safety and environmental risks related to GSE assets. Collaborating with internal and external suppliers, you will deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective assets to all Qantas Group business units across more than 80 locations nationally and internationally.

You'll have –

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a relevant or related field to asset design, modification and maintenance
  • Tertiary qualification or relevant technical experience – qualifications in Engineering or Science is desirable
  • Demonstrated understanding of WHSE regulations and asset management framework
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • The ability to assess and make balanced judgement decisions regarding continued operations of equipment whilst accounting for the safety of customers/employees
  • Ability to think across multiple dimensions and link to financial outcomes
  • Experience delivering technical solutions that comply to design and regulatory outcomes in a timely manner
  • Technical expertise in equipment and machinery systems (hydraulics, diesel, or electrical technology) is highly advantageous
  • Proficiency in producing technical documentation such as design specifications, investigation reports, and technical procedures
  • Experience in driving sustainable change through an organisation
  • An analytical mindset and ability to implement strategic plans
