The opportunity

The Marine National Facility (MNF) is a cornerstone of Australia's marine research infrastructure, delivering world-class capability through the research vessel Investigator. Managed by CSIRO, the MNF supports multidisciplinary marine research across Australia's maritime estate, enabling evidence-based decision-making in areas such as fisheries, climate, geology, and marine operations.

As a Voyage Delivery Coordinator, you will play a key role in coordinating the safe and effective delivery of research voyages. Working within the MNF Operations Team, you will manage all aspects of voyage planning from shore, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure technical, logistical and safety requirements are met. You will also provide ongoing support throughout the voyage lifecycle, helping to resolve issues and optimise outcomes.

This is a multi-faceted role that blends administration, technical coordination and stakeholder engagement. You will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, a detail-oriented approach, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in project coordination tools and Microsoft Office 365 is essential, along with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to customer service.

If you're passionate about supporting impactful marine research and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, this is a great opportunity to contribute to nationally significant science - so we'd love to hear from you

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement and technical support by consulting with internal and external parties to provide expert advice on vessel capabilities, equipment, and operational standards.
  • Supporting the planning and execution of research voyages in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), ensuring voyage objectives are clearly defined and aligned with CSIRO policies and procedures.
  • Managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, including technical reviews, logistical arrangements, and real-time support for onboard teams to ensure successful voyage outcomes.
  • Providing practical and administrative support for research voyages, including documentation development, resource management, and compliance with organisational and Commonwealth requirements.
  • Ensuring safety and operational alignment by liaising with the MNF Safety Coordination Team and applying CSIRO's safety management systems throughout voyage planning and execution.
  • Contributing to team development and organisational culture by working collaboratively, participating in training activities, and upholding CSIRO's values, including diversity, inclusion, and safety.

  • Ability to project manage to deliver logistical, operational and technical requirements under tight timeframes with competing priorities.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to HSE and continuous improvement, and the ability to prepare and apply appropriate documentation and procedures for specific activities.
  • Superior communication skills to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and negotiate operational outcomes, including the ability to deliver presentations and briefings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills, with demonstrated ability to apply policy and sound judgement when resolving personnel challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a leader in a complex, dynamic and time critical work environment.
