The Opportunity
We are looking for a Research Assisting or Research Officer (level dependent on experience) to join the STopping Acute Rheumatic Fever Infections to Strengthen Health (STARFISH) project within the Strep A Translation team at The Kids Research Institute Australia.

STARFISH brings together a diverse and multidisciplinary research team to investigate the most effective environmental health initiatives (EHIs) aimed at reducing Strep A infections and preventing Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF). Through landscape analysis for Strep A transmission, EHI's and community knowledge, laboratory studies of Strep A transmission and disruption of transmission, community co-design and implementation of EHI's and translation to routine implementation, STARFISH will produce evidence with embedded research translation to implement strategies that facilitate the prevention of ARF.

Reporting to the Team Program Manager, this role will work very closely with the Senior Project Coordinator and the project's researchers to provide research support by assisting with various activities – from quantitative data analysis, literature reviews, stakeholder engagement and research translation.

Some of your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Data collection and management.
  • Quantitative analysis.
  • Stakeholder and community engagement activities.
  • Contributing to research translation and outputs.
  • Contributing to scientific publications and processes including ethics application and grant writing.

This position will be offered on a full-time basis, with part time (0.8 FTE) hours considered, for an initial 1-year period.

This position is based within Perth Children's Hospital in Nedlands; however, we are open to considering other locations and flexible or remote working arrangements for the successful candidate, depending on their skills and experience.

This position would suit someone who has a strong interest in Aboriginal health, with an understanding of community priorities and research processes, and a commitment to ethical and culturally respectful practice. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience working in quantitative research.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and set priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of successful collaboration in team-based research.
  • Ability to engage with and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • High level attention to detail.
