The Role

The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing, validating, communicating and implementing specific sourcing strategies that provide competitive advantage and deliver the highest overall benefit to business results across both Direct and Indirect categories. Through the use of the Strategic Sourcing process, this position will drive value add, process improvement, and innovation opportunities across raw materials and packaging.

In addition to the core responsibilities the Procurement Manager will also play a pivotal role in leading and supervising a small team of direct reports. Fostering a collaborative and high-performing team, while identifying opportunities for skill development is crucial for success in this leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement ownership of responsible Raw Material sourcing activities through early involvement in commercial discussions and ensuring strategic sourcing is performed for the entire category.
  • Ensure competitive processes are utilised across both Direct and Indirect categories.
  • Ensure optimisation of purchasing specifications is considered as part of every sourcing initiative.
  • Develop, validate and communicate innovative sourcing strategies for Raw Material category in alignment with Strategic Sourcing process.
  • Continual assessment of Raw Material Category to enhance understanding of market dynamics.
  • Identify focused sourcing initiatives for Raw Material category through detailed spend analysis, category insight (including supporting documentation) and opportunities arising from alignment to specific business objectives.
  • Lead responsible Raw Material category and business sourcing initiatives including key elements of pre-qualification of short-listed suppliers, supplier and market analysis, negotiations, evaluations, supplier selection, risk assessment, implementation and formalisation of legal agreements.
  • Lead/support regional sourcing initiatives for Fresh Produce.
  • Oversee the activities of the direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Manage the performance of the team, conducting regular check-ins and providing constructive feedback to foster professional growth and optimal results.

Required Experience and Attributes

Your previous experience and qualifications will include:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), high level interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work efficiently, manage time, prioritise workload and operate within a nimble organisation.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving & strong initiative capability.
  • The ability to influence, manage and challenge ideas and existing business processes.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Strategic Raw Material Procurement, ideally with experience in fresh produce.
  • Over a sustained period (2-3 years) has demonstrated success in delivering competitive advantage through development and implementation of Raw Material sourcing strategies.
  • Related degree in Business Management / Supply Chain / Logistics / Economics / Finance / Engineering.
  • CIPSA and/or APICS qualifications viewed favourably.
  • Experience in leading and managing a team, demonstrating effective leadership skills.
  • Strong ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve common goals.
  • Skilled in performance management, including conducting reviews and providing constructive feedback.
