About This Opportunity
The National Basketball League is looking for an exceptional Lead Full Stack Engineer to join our technology leadership team as the 2IC to our GM Technology. This is your chance to combine your passion for technology with the excitement of professional sports, driving innovation that connects millions of basketball fans across Australia and beyond.
In this pivotal role, you'll lead technical strategy, mentor high-performing teams, and build the digital experiences that bring NBL closer to fans while powering the operational systems that make the magic happen behind the scenes.
What You'll Do
Drive Technical Strategy
- Partner with our GM Technology to shape and execute technology vision aligned with NBL's ambitious growth plans
- Lead architectural decisions across web, mobile, and backend platforms
- Champion best practices in development methodologies and platform selection
Lead Through Code
- Get hands-on with React-based frontend applications and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
- Design and build serverless APIs and scalable middleware solutions
- Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform for seamless DevOps automation
- Oversee mobile development strategy and cross-platform initiatives
Build & Inspire Teams
- Mentor talented developers across multiple disciplines
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence
- Lead hiring initiatives to build world-class development teams
- Drive knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration
Ensure Operational Excellence
- Establish robust CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
- Maintain system reliability and security across all platforms
- Drive DevOps adoption and infrastructure automation
- Lead modernization efforts and technical debt management
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience:
- 7+ years in software development with 3+ years in senior technical leadership
- Expert-level React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript skills
- Strong , , and serverless architecture experience
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Working knowledge of mobile development (React Native preferred)
- Proven track record scaling applications for high traffic and concurrency
- Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases, microservices, and distributed systems
Bonus Points For:
- Passion for sport and understanding of the unique demands of live sports technology
- Experience in sports, entertainment, or media tech environments
- Background with live streaming, real-time data, or high-concurrency applications
- Machine learning/AI experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
- Cloud platform certifications
