The Opportunity

Australia's most influential retail brand is rebuilding the engine that keeps its stores and fulfilment running. The old, on-premises .NET Framework platform is being transformed into a modern, cloud native, distributed microservice environment on Azure.

You'll step into a small, senior team on a six-month contract and help finish a migration that is already halfway there. Your work will modernise services into .NET on Azure, strip out years of technical debt left by a previous vendor, and ship new features into an event-driven, containerised platform that the rest of the business depends on.

That transformation runs through every layer of the stack. Data moves from SQL Server to MySQL or PostgreSQL. The front end evolves from a legacy Angular application to a modern UI built in Angular, React, or Blazor.

What you'll do:

  • Own full stack delivery across .NET, APIs and the front end
  • Finish the migration from on prem .NET Framework to modern .NET on Azure and modern distributed microservices
  • Help move data from SQL Server to MySQL or PostgreSQL and keep services fast, reliable and maintainable
  • Work in an event driven, containerised environment using modern patterns, Kubernetes, IaC and CI/CD
  • Lift engineering standards, reduce technical debt and improve observability and reliability in production
  • Partner with product, architecture and other engineers to shape the roadmap and sequence migration and feature work

What you bring:

  • Strong commercial experience with C# and modern .NET, plus solid knowledge of older .NET Framework
  • Proven history migrating legacy on prem .NET systems into modern .NET on a major cloud, ideally Azure
  • Hands on experience with distributed microservices, common .NET libraries and patterns like DDD and event driven design
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, container orchestration and CI/CD, for example Kubernetes and ARM, Bicep or Terraform with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Solid SQL skills and database migration or refactoring experience across SQL Server and MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Front end experience with Angular and TypeScript, and openness to work with modern Angular, React or Blazor
  • Confidence working in large, existing codebases and leaving them in a better state, plus clear communication and a practical mindset
