About the position

The Library Assistant First 5 Forever position will assist with the development, implementation, and provision of innovative, quality, and responsive library and information services, events, and programs for children aged 0 – 5 years old.  The position will promote family and early literacy, the First 5 Forever philosophy, library usage, social inclusion, and promote Toowoomba Region Libraries to the community.

This position will work under regular supervision.

• This is a Temporary Part time position until 30 June 2026.
• The salary range for this position is $15, $16,939.63 gross pro rata, per annum, plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.
• The position is up to 15.95 hours / fortnight. The work pattern will include Wednesday shifts (5 hours), with the flexibility to negotiate your other days.
• There will also be the potential to work additional hours on an ad hoc basis, across our library branches.

How to be successful in this position - Success Criteria

1. Hold the mandatory qualification(s), training and/or experience, as outlined under the 'Success Criteria' in the Position Description (Once logged into your Seek account, click the 'Apply' button to be redirected to the Toowoomba Regional Council advertisement to access the Position Description and to apply).
2. Sound computing skills including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher to maintain and create resources and databases to assist with statistical reporting.
3. Good oral and written communication skills and numeracy skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
5. Ability to learn and follow relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
6. Experience working with children.
7. An awareness of early childhood development, and the importance of pre-literacy activities (Baby Rhyme Time, Story Time, and Music and Movement) to childhood development.
8. Ability to plan and prioritise own work.
9. Understanding of and commitment to Council's Organisational Value and Behaviour of Teamwork.
