About the Role

The Bargaining and Legal Strategy team is looking to fill a temporary Senior Associate, Bargaining and Legal Strategy role within the Industrial Relations Branch, part of the People and Workforce Group. This role plays a critical part in shaping and supporting whole-of-government industrial relations strategies.

The position provides high-quality, timely and strategic advice on bargaining and industrial relations issues that directly influence government priorities and organisational outcomes. It involves analysing complex industrial matters, identifying risks and opportunities, and developing practical solutions that deliver positive, consistent results across the public sector.

Collaboration with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders is essential, with a focus on supporting the development and implementation of legal and industrial strategies that drive reform and enable the successful delivery of key bargaining initiatives. This position is currently being offered as a temporary 18-month opportunity, with potential to extend or convert to ongoing.

We're Looking For

  • Industrial Relations Expertise and Strategic Advisory Skills: Ability to identify industrial risks and opportunities, and provide high-quality, timely advice on complex bargaining and legal strategy matters. You will have in depth understanding of employment legislation, government policy, and industrial instruments within the public sector context.
  • Project Management: Competence in planning, coordinating, and monitoring projects, including risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Advanced Communication: Skilled in managing complex communications, translating technical information clearly, and writing persuasively across formats.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to anticipate issues, evaluate options, and develop practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships across agencies and with diverse stakeholders to deliver cross-sector initiatives.
