Based in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, this business has built a reputation for long-term client relationships, low staff turnover, and a collaborative, close-knit team culture. With a small yet successful team of local brokers and offshore processing support, the business is now seeking a senior broker to take over a long-standing portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to inherit a stable book while also driving new business growth and shaping the future of the brokerage.

Your new role

As Senior Account Manager / Account Director, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of commercial clients including manufacturers, importers/exporters, retailers, property owners, and marine risks. You'll be responsible for servicing existing accounts, refining the book, and bringing in new business from your own network or database. This is a senior role with strong succession potential. The role is available due to a Senior Director retiring from the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and retain an existing portfolio valued at approximately $650k, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  • Conduct a full handover with the retiring Account Director to ensure continuity of service and relationship management.
  • Identify and transition new business opportunities from your own network or database.
  • Refine and restructure the book by focusing on quality clients and phasing out smaller, less strategic accounts.
  • Provide tailored insurance solutions across a broad generalist portfolio including manufacturing, retail, import/export, property, marine, and goods in transit.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients across Victoria and interstate.
  • Collaborate with a team of commercial and marine brokers, supported by offshore processing staff.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director and senior team to contribute to business strategy and growth.
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations and internal standards.
  • Represent the business professionally in the market, with a view to long-term succession and potential equity involvement.

What you'll need to succeed

  • 10+ years experience in Account Management and Insurance Broking
  • Proven, senior leadership experience within general insurance broking, ideally across commercial lines.
  • Strong client relationships and the ability to bring accounts with you.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client service skills.
  • A stable career history with long-term roles.
  • Ability to work full-time from the office in the Eastern suburbs, with occasional flexibility.
  • A proactive, relationship-driven approach and long-term career mindset.
