Job Description: Security Officer – Shopping Centre

Position Title: Security Officer

Location: Eastern Suburbs

Position Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Security Officer to join our team at a busy shopping centre in the Eastern Suburbs. The Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the shopping centre, its tenants, and visitors. This includes conducting regular patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, liaising with the client, preventing loss, and responding to any security incidents or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patrols: Perform regular foot and vehicle patrols of the shopping centre premises, both inside and outside, to ensure the safety and security of the building, tenants, and visitors. Report any suspicious activities or safety hazards immediately.
• Surveillance Monitoring: Actively monitor CCTV systems, ensuring any unusual activities or incidents are detected and addressed in a timely manner. Report any breaches in security to management.
• Loss Prevention: Implement and enforce loss prevention protocols to minimize theft and fraudulent activity. Work closely with store managers and staff to identify and prevent potential security risks.
• Client Coordination: Serve as the main point of contact for the shopping centre's management and clients regarding security concerns. Provide regular updates and reports on security matters and incidents.
• Incident Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and any security incidents, such as theft, medical emergencies, or disturbances. Take appropriate action in line with company policies and procedures.
• Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to all shopping centre visitors, including assisting with directions, answering questions, and offering support during emergencies.
• Emergency Preparedness: Be trained and ready to implement emergency evacuation procedures in the event of a fire, natural disaster, or other crisis situations. Maintain a calm and efficient response in emergency scenarios.
• Report Writing: Document and report all incidents, suspicious activities, and safety issues in daily logs and incident reports. Ensure reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
• Collaboration with Law Enforcement: If necessary, liaise with local law enforcement or emergency responders to ensure quick resolution of security-related issues.
• Maintain Security Equipment: Ensure all security devices and equipment are functioning properly and report any malfunctions for immediate repair or replacement.
• Building Security: Oversee access control points to prevent unauthorized entry and ensure that all entrances are secure after business hours.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in security or loss prevention is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with both the public and clients effectively.
• Ability to stay calm and composed in emergency situations.
• Knowledge of CCTV surveillance systems and other security technology.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to take proactive action in resolving issues.
• Physical fitness to conduct regular patrols and stand for extended periods.
• Must pass a background check and obtain any necessary licensing or certifications (e.g., Security License).
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• A customer-focused attitude with the ability to assist the public in a friendly and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• First Aid or CPR certification.
• Experience in shopping centre security or retail security operations.
• Knowledge of loss prevention techniques and methods.

Work Environment:

• Busy shopping centre environment with both indoor and outdoor areas.
• Must be prepared to deal with large crowds and potential emergencies.
• Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions during patrols.

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Pay: $28.00 – $42.00 per hour

Licence/Certification:

• Victorian Security Licence (Required)
