Lead comprehensive network tariff analysis and optimisation across Australia's National Electricity Market.

Location:
Melbourne

Remuneration:
$210,000 plus a comprehensive range of benefits

About the Opportunity

Our client is a major national energy consumer with substantial electricity requirements across Australia. The organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Network Pricing and Tariff Analyst to conduct comprehensive network tariff analysis across Australia's National Electricity Market and manage relationships with Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs).

You will work closely with the Manager Network Pricing & Procurement and analyse network tariffs across the organisation's portfolio of sites, identifying optimisation opportunities and providing detailed analysis to support commercial and strategic decision-making.

As Senior Network Pricing and Tariff Analyst, you will be responsible for analysing network tariffs, managing DNSP relationships, developing business cases for tariff strategies, and communicating findings to senior leadership and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Network Tariff Analysis & Optimisation

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and optimisation of network tariffs and charges across the portfolio of sites. Develop detailed tariff models to assess the commercial and operational impacts of network pricing structures.
  • Evaluate cost-reflective tariff designs, including demand charges, capacity-based pricing, and time-of-use tariffs. Analyse tariff impacts across operational sites, load profiles, and usage patterns.
  • Monitor DNSP pricing proposals and regulatory submissions. Identify risks and opportunities for cost optimisation and provide recommendations on tariff changes.

DNSP Relationship Management & Negotiation

  • Manage relationships and negotiations with DNSPs to ensure tariff structures align with business objectives. Engage with DNSPs on tariff design consultations and pricing proposals, representing the organisation's interests.
  • Support commercial negotiations on network use-of-system (NUOS) agreements and tariff structures. Build and maintain strategic relationships with DNSPs across jurisdictions to facilitate collaborative problem-solving on network cost management.

Regulatory Monitoring & Strategic Insight

  • Monitor regulatory changes and market developments that impact network tariff exposure. Track AER regulatory determinations, network pricing proposals, and rule changes affecting network tariffs and charges.
  • Analyse the implications of regulatory developments for the organisation's network costs and provide early warning of emerging risks or opportunities. Contribute to regulatory submissions and consultation responses on network pricing matters.

Strategic Analysis & Business Case Development

  • Develop robust business cases and strategic recommendations on network pricing matters to support senior leadership decision-making. Conduct scenario analysis and cost-impact modelling to quantify the benefits of different tariff optimisation strategies.
  • Translate complex network tariff data and regulatory information into clear, actionable insights and strategic recommendations. Assess emerging technologies and their potential impact on network tariffs, including distributed energy resources (DER), battery storage, electric vehicles, and demand response.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Internal Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across procurement, finance, and operations to integrate tariff analysis into broader energy strategy. Partner with energy procurement teams to align network tariff optimisation with overall energy cost management.
  • Support finance teams with network cost forecasting and budgeting. Engage with operations teams to understand how tariff structures impact operational load profiles and identify demand management opportunities.

Reporting & Communications

  • Produce detailed reports and presentations that translate complex tariff data into actionable insights for senior stakeholders. Develop clear, visual representations of network tariff analysis using data visualisation tools.
  • Communicate tariff analysis findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. Prepare materials for regulatory consultations and industry forums on network pricing matters.
