The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced facilities professional to play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of The Kid's Research Institute facilities team. Working collaboratively with other Facilities Operations Leads, you will oversee maintenance, repairs, and upgrades, manage contractors and service contracts and deliver essential services that support a safe, functional and welcoming environment for staff, researchers and visitors.

In this hands-on leadership role, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage day-to-day facilities operations, including maintenance, cleaning, security, waste, and staff amenities.
  • Coordinate and monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with Institute policies and WHS standards.
  • Support laboratory operations, assisting with equipment maintenance and installation.
  • Manage access control, security systems, and building monitoring systems across all sites.
  • Oversee asset and fleet management, ensuring accurate records and efficient use of resources.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality service and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to facilities staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork and safety.

Job details: Full-time, ongoing position located at Perth Children's Hospital, with responsibilities across multiple sites.

About You

You are a capable and adaptable facilities professional who thrives in a busy, collaborative environment. You take pride in delivering high-quality service and ensuring operational excellence. With strong leadership, technical knowledge and stakeholder engagement skills, you're ready to make a meaningful impact in a research-focused organisation.

You will have the following skills and expertise:

  • Significant experience in facilities or maintenance operations, ideally within a laboratory or complex multi-site environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate teams, contractors and projects effectively.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, WHS, environmental compliance and asset management.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A customer-focused approach, with well-developed communication and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in data and systems management, and familiarity with project management methodologies.
  • Current Class C driver's licence and physical capacity to undertake occasional manual work.

Desirable:

  • Experience using accommodation or asset management software.
  • Proficiency in project management tools.
