
Communications and Events Manager

The Communications and Events Manager is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating an agricultural organisation's communications strategy and events program. Assists with the acquittal of grant programs. This role ensures the smooth delivery of events as well as consistent messaging across all channels. It is key to building brand visibility, strengthening stakeholder engagement, supporting membership growth and delivering high-quality events to support organisational objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommunications
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan aligned with organisational goals.
- Manage internal and external communications, including newsletters, media releases, reports, and digital content.
- Oversee social media platforms and website content to ensure engaging, timely, and accurate information.
- Build and maintain relationships with media, partners, and stakeholders.
- Ensure brand guidelines and messaging consistency across all materials.
Events
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver events (conferences, field days, farm walks workshops, , stakeholder forums,
- Manage event logistics including venue selection, contracts, suppliers, catering, audio-visual, and registrations.
- Develop event budgets, manage costs, and ensure events are delivered within financial parameters.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to maximise event impact.
- Evaluate events and provide recommendations for future improvements.
- Stakeholder/sponsor - build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and sponsor – seek sponsorship and funding for events
General
- Contribute to organisational strategy, culture, and continuous improvement.
- Supervise and support staff, volunteers, or contractors as required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as reasonably directed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualification in communications, marketing, public relations, event management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience in communications strategy, media engagement, and digital content management.
- Proven track record in planning and delivering successful events.
- Experience managing budgets and supplier contracts.
Skills & Competencies
- Sound understanding of agriculture, irrigated farm systems and research
- Networks in the agricultural sector and understanding of the target audience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in relevant digital tools (e.g. CMS, social media platforms, CRM, event management software).
- Growth in brand awareness and stakeholder engagement.
- Timely and effective delivery of communications campaigns.
- Successful delivery of events within scope, budget, and timelines.
- Positive feedback from stakeholders and participants.
- Contribution to organisational objectives.
