Northern Health are seeking applications for a Nurse Unit Manager – Ward One, Bundoora Centre. If you are an ANUM or senior Registered Nurse looking to further develop your leadership and management skills, you are encouraged to apply.

Ward One is a 22 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward that focuses on high quality patient care, ensuring continuity of care and discharge planning through a multidisciplinary team approach. Ward One consists of dedicated registered and enrolled nurses and as such we are looking for a dedicated and dynamic leader to join our senior leadership team at Bundoora Centre.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

This role requires previous experience as either a NUM/ANUM or senior registered nurse who is dynamic, collaborative and able to promote and evaluate the delivery of excellent patient care and provide clinical leadership, operational management and strategic direction for staff at Northern Heath. This will ensure the delivery of a cost-effective service with a focus on nursing excellence within the Sub-Acute and Hospital Without Walls Division.

The role reports directly to Site Director Operations / Director of Nursing Bundoora Centre.

The NUM is also responsible for the attraction, retention and development of nursing staff, workforce planning and resource management within the Unit and providing a high-quality GEM service to Northern Health Consumers.

At Bundoora Centre, NUM also acts in the role of emergency controller for the site on a rotational basis.

The NUM is the pivotal link between the Unit's stakeholders that include patients and carers, nursing staff, the interdisciplinary team, interfacing departments and services, senior management and the wider organisation.

This position is responsible for:

  • The coordination of patient flow, bed management and effective workforce allocation within Unit
  • high standard of clinical nursing leadership, problem solving, decision making and communication.
  • The quality and efficiency of clinical service delivery.
  • the recruitment, retention and development of staff; responsible financial management; collaborative interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Takes on the role of emergency controller for clinical and non-clinical emergency management across Site on roster/rotational basis.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Registered Nurse Division 1
  • Experience and good working knowledge of subacute or acute nursing
  • Clinical and/or leadership experience
  • Highly motivated and positive outlook
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise
  • Looking for a professional development opportunity
  • Post graduate studies in gerontology and/or leadership or working towards.
