Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Associate Nurse Unit Manager to join the Northern Community Care Unit team in Preston.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

This role requires that as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM), you will work collaboratively under the guidance of the Manager, Team Leader, and Lead Consultant to provide leadership, clinical support, and coordination of care. Your role will be central in supporting consumers in their recovery journey, empowering them to regain independence and achieve their full potential.

This is a fixed term part time (72 hours per fortnight) position covering maternity leave until Nov 2026

This role is responsible:

  • To provide leadership, mentorship, and support to nursing and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Role model recovery-oriented and person-centred practices.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team, including nursing, allied health, and medical professionals.
  • Coordinate and supervise the delivery of high-quality care to residents.
  • Support residents with symptom management, medication supervision, life skills training, and rehabilitation.
  • Assist in reintegration efforts to transition residents back into the community.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience and a strong working knowledge of working in mental health.
  • A deep understanding of recovery orientated practice, including the philosophical foundations, practical processes and environments that enable individuals to achieve their recovery goals.
  • Proven ability to support consumers in a person centred and strength-based way, fostering independence, hope and self-determination.
  • Knowledge of major treatment modalities and therapeutic interventions, including psychological, pharmacological and psychosocial approaches.
  • Be familiar with innovative and evidenced based models of care, and a commitment to continuous improvement in mental health service delivery.
  • A respectful and compassionate communication style that builds trust with consumers, families and carers, and supports relationships to facilitate recovery.
  • A sound understanding of consumer rights and responsibilities, and the ability to empower individuals to make informed choices in their recovery journey.
  • Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, person centred care and achieve positive consumer outcomes.
