About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented
Derivatives Paralegal/Negotiator
to join our growing team in Sydney. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career legal or documentation professional to gain exposure to a wide range of finance-based client work across global investment banks, asset managers, and other financial institutions.
You will be working closely with legal, credit, risk, and front-office stakeholders to negotiate, review, and execute a variety of trading documentation. This role offers significant learning opportunities and the chance to build expertise in OTC derivatives, ISDA Master Agreements, and related documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating derivatives documentation including ISDA Master Agreements (1992/2002), Credit Support Annexes, and ancillary trading agreements
- Supporting clients on day-to-day documentation queries and amendments
- Coordinating with internal teams (Legal, Credit, Risk, Operations) to resolve open points and progress negotiations efficiently
- Maintaining accurate records and tracking progress across multiple concurrent negotiations
- Staying up to date with regulatory requirements (e.g., EMIR, Dodd-Frank, UMR) and reflecting them appropriately in documentation
Key Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in derivatives documentation, ISDA negotiation, or financial services legal support
- Understanding of key provisions in ISDA Master Agreements and CSAs
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple negotiations simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across business and legal teams
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
