Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Snowy Hydro Full time $120,000 - $250,000 per year

Job description:

About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

About the position:

The Senior Lawyer - Energy and Trading primarily supports the Commercial and Trading team, but also the Regulatory team. The role involves working on commercial transactions in the energy space, including new deals, power purchase agreements from renewables, and gas deals. The role supports Snowy's trading transactions predominantly in the derivatives contract market and provides legal support to regulatory intervention, as well as providing legal advice on compliance and related enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, negotiating and advising on Snowy Hydro's derivative and over-the-counter ISDA contracts, renewable energy offtake and power purchase agreements
  • Building and maintaining key relationships with stakeholders, predominantly in the Commercial and Trading teams
  • Running transactions, participation in negotiations, and advising on risk and structures
  • Management of legal disputes and regulatory investigations, including with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Energy Regulator
  • Delivering legal awareness training to relevant business units

About the location:

This position is based in Sydney.

About you:

  • A legal professional with experience in energy, either from a law firm or working in-house in a similar sector
  • Over six years' post qualification experience
  • A demonstrated background in negotiating and drafting contracts across a range of areas, including wholesale agreements, renewable and energy offtake and ISDA contracts
  • A strong knowledge of relevant legislation
  • The drive and ability to work independently

If you meet some, but not all, of the requirements, you are still encouraged to apply.

About our workforce:

Snowy Hydro has a culture of decency and inclusion, with a commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people and a supportive environment to ensure that everyone - regardless of background - feels included and can succeed. At Snowy Hydro, we recognise that we are made stronger by the unique capabilities and qualities that each individual brings, and we believe in providing an environment that allows that uniqueness to thrive.
