The role
At Clayton Utz, we know that collaboration and effective resource management is critical to delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients and supporting the growth of our people. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Resource Manager to join our team. This is a new role, and you will play a central part in managing the resourcing needs of our legal teams – focussing on balancing workloads, and ensuring our lawyers are provided with opportunities to grow and develop.
Working closely with our legal teams, you will serve as a key liaison between the Group Lead Partner (GLP), Partners, Special Counsels, Senior Associates, People & Development, and lawyers. You will drive high-performance outcomes for our firm by aligning talent capabilities with client demands, ensuring effective collaboration and optimal resource allocation.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with GLPs and Partners to identify resource needs and assign lawyers to matters based on availability, skill set, and strategic priorities.
- Monitor lawyer utilisation trends, ensuring workloads are balanced and aligned with client and firm goals.
- Align work allocation with individual development goals, providing junior lawyers with broad experience to build well-rounded careers.
- Analyse future work pipelines, anticipate resource needs, and provide input into recruitment strategies.
- Work closely with People & Development and other teams to ensure seamless resourcing and support for client secondments.
- Use resource management tools and analytics to generate insights, improve processes, and drive decision-making.
- Monitor capacity to ensure the health and wellbeing of our lawyers, escalating concerns where necessary.
About You
You thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving complex problems, and are passionate about building strong relationships. You'll bring:
- A bachelor's degree in a related discipline (e.g. Business / Law).
- Proven experience in resource or project management, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
- Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel and resource management tools.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to navigate competing priorities.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to work effectively with finance teams and systems.
Why Clayton Utz?
At Clayton Utz, we're more than just a law firm—we're a community of professionals committed to excellence, innovation, and collaboration. We offer:
- A supportive and inclusive culture that values diversity and individuality.
- Opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the firm's operations and our people's careers.
- A focus on wellbeing, professional development, and continuous improvement.
