Power and Water Corporation is a Northern Territory Government (NTG) owned utility that operates across a geographic area of 1.3 million square kilometres and within a range of diverse environmental conditions, ranging from the arid dry of the central desert to the tropical monsoon of the top end. The corporation generates, transmits, and distributes electricity, supplies water and wastewater treatment services across the Northern Territory (NT) for the benefit of residents, including remote and isolated Aboriginal communities and outstations.

An excellent opportunity now exists for a qualified Technical Specialist to join our experienced and successful corporation, based in Darwin. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate their experience using critical thinking and analytical skills associated with complex electrical circuitry, have a keen attitude and aptitude to get the job done.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will hold the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A Diploma of Electrical or Power Engineering or approved equivalent, recognised to Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5 and a minimum of a National Restricted Licence Category 'Instrumentation and Control Equipment' (or are eligible to attain) OR a recognised Australian "A" grade Electrical licence.

  • A current NT driver's license or the ability to obtain.

  • Strong fault finding & analytical skills along with the ability to think critically to diagnose and resolve issues effectively.

  • A high level of computer skills (both hardware and software) and the ability to learn new systems, as well as well-developed oral and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently with minimal supervision and the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices applied to risk and hazard management, associated with an electrical network, in a field environment.

  • Experience with the installation or testing of complex control circuitry such as process control, scheme automation, SCADA and protection circuits

  • Significant exposure to field-based construction, testing or maintenance of electrical plant
