Senior Policy Officer

  • Location in Parramatta with 50% in-office attendance
  • Full time permanent position (35 hours per week)
  • Clerk Grade 9/10 - $129,464 to $142,665 plus superannuation and leave loading

Your role

The Community Housing Supply Grants branch (CHSGB) in Homes NSW manages agreements and transactions to deliver social and affordable housing in partnership with registered community housing providers, local government, NSW government departments and other stakeholders.

The main focus of this role in the Affordable Housing Delivery team, which sits in the CHSGB, is to support and promote the development of affordable housing in partnership with local government councils, registered community housing providers and other stakeholders.

What you'll do

Working as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team with skills knowledge and experience in town planning, social and affordable housing, contracting, human services, law and finance, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in affordable (and social) housing projects.
  • Provide advice on affordable housing related planning instruments, policies:
  • preparing submissions to local councils, regional bodies and the Department of Planning, Housing and Industry on policies and strategies, including contribution schemes.
  • working with the team to assist local governments to resolve affordable housing issues.
  • Building and maintaining positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on projects with an affordable housing component including State Significant Developments.
  • Update affordable housing content on the Homes NSW (DCJ) website, as necessary.
  • Liaise with internal data providers and prepare updates to Homes NSW's (DCJ) online Local Government Housing Kit Database.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualifications and experience as a town planner (preferably with exposure to local or State Government housing policy/programs).
  • Understanding of affordable housing and its enabling and regulatory framework, including the Affordable Housing Guidelines, relevant State policies and legislation and local approaches and responses.
  • Ability to source, understand and interpret Census and other relevant data to determine need for and issues with social and affordable housing.
